Massachusetts, unsigned 8 days weight driven brass movement banjo timepiece, c1825 The movement has characteristics of those made by Sawin & Dyar. Mahogany and gilt case in original finish with a small chip on the bottom right corner. The weight once came through the bottom as it has nails currently holding it in place. The throat tablet is old and probably original. The bottom tablet is later. The painted dial is old, but later example as it is zinc, not iron. It has paint loss at the mounting pins and in the center area. The brass bezel is probably replaced as the witness marks used to set the hinge have been widened. Early door latch with an L-turn. Later finial. Ht 30"
