Litchfield Mfg. Co., Litchfield, Conn., 8 days, spring driven brass movement timepiece in impressive decorated MOP paper mache case, c1852
Anonymous (not verified)
24 October 2024
Paper mache case richly painted and with MOP inlay in nice condition, with some issues that will attention. The left rear foot is cracked in a couple of places and will need repair. The curved piece on the upper left side at about 10 o'clock has been poorly repaired and needs correction. The round molded edge on the base has some roughness in the center. Original painted dial has minor loss at mounting screws and minor wear to numerals. Original hands. The unusual double escapement movement by Mathews, Jewell & Co., of Bristol. Samuel Botsford probably designed the movement as he was a partner in that firm. There is history of the ownership of the clock. Despite the repair issues this is a rare clock. Ht 26"
