Herchede Clock Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, tall clock, retailed by Wm. J. Davis, Philadelphia, 8 days, time, strike and chime playing Westminster or Whittington on 9 marked Herschede Crown Symphony tubes, three brass weight driven, Germany stamped movement in a mahogany case with full columns flanking dial, beveled lower glass, paw feet and sunburst on base and hood. The brass dial has silvered chapter ring, second's bit, tune selector and strike / silent selection, applied cast and engraved dial center and spandrels and moon phase. the case retains its original finish with minor blemishes. The Crown Symphony tubes sound very good despite two professional repairs. The dial has some minor oxidation. Herschede began manufacturing their own movements in 1910, rather than importing the highest quality from Germany and England. Therefore, this fine clock dates prior to 1910 with a high grade German movement and Herscede's high end Crown Symphony tubes.
