Ansonia Clock Co., New York, NY, "La Provence" shelf clock with a spring driven, 8 day time and half hour strike movement with visible escapement in a porcelain case.
This clock appears to be a variant of the "La Provence" depicted on page 619 of Tran Duy Ly's book on Ansonia clocks. This clock measures 17.75 inches in height and 11.25 inches in width whereas the Ansonia catalogue version measures 24 inches in height and 15.25 inches in width, Other than the dimensional differences, the clocks appear to be the same. In 1908, the full size "La Provence" sold for $125, two to three times the price of most other Ansonia Royal Bonn porcelain clocks. This clock case is still a beautiful and imposing Royal Bonn case. with no chips or cracks. The porcelain dial with visible escapement is in excellent condition with no hairline cracks. The hands are original. The case back movement cover is absent, This is the first "smaller" size of this model we have seen. Found in New York.
