Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn. for Jarvis Universal Clock Co., Chicago, Illinois, "Jarvis World Clock", 30 day, time only, twin spring movement in an oak case with 19 inch 24 hour dial showing time of day for points around the globe.
Case has an original finish which has darkened. Patriotic decals on front corners of the case have faded, but the Jarvis trademark in the center is still easy to read. The multi-part dials are paper over metal. The rear dial has yellowed and has some staining along the right edge. The shaded portion on the bottom half of the dial to indicate night has faded. The inner dial is in good condition. A crude paper cover hides the two apertures in the dial which once displayed the day of the week dial which is now absent. Paper instructions for installing and regulating the clock are pasted below the dial. The door glass is old. The signed twin spring Seth Thomas movement has its stopworks and supplementary bevel gears with drop shafts to facilitate winding from the bottom of the closed case. The Jarvis World Clock was mentioned in the introduction to a book they published titled "The Story of Time" by Albert B. Olsten, published in 1915. The model is identical to the "Square Gallery" shown in Ly's Seth Thomas book.
