E. Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., "No. 36 Regulator", 8 day, time only, weight driven movement with Graham deadbeat escapement, meter long pendulum with loaded glass jar in a carved walnut case with mirrored back and painted metal dial.

the clock is in excellent original condition. There is an unfinished area where the seat board rested when finish was applied to the inside of the case. The seat board was then raised to accommodate the configuration for the No. 36. The core of this case may have been used for other Howard models. Two strips have been added to the back of the dial surround to support a split in the board. The weight, pendulum and bob are all original and Howard type. This is a very scarce model in excellent condition. The term "loaded pendulum" is from the E. Howard catalog description of the No. 36. The description states, in part, that the clock has "a pendulum rod of wood, and loaded glass jar for pendulum ball. It is finely finished in every respect. For accuracy of performance it is equal to anything but a compensated pendulum, while its appearance is solid and ornamental. This can be arranged with a compensated pendulum".
