E. Howard & Co. "No. 1 Regulator", ca 1993.

This model was first made by Howard & Davis about 1842-1857, then by Howard alone thru the 1930's, and many models were made in the 1970's by a new Howard Co. and called them " reissues". We have sold many reissues in our catalogs and in fact there is one or more in this catalog. This outstanding copy of those early banjo clocks was made by Wayne Cline, Bowling Green, Ky., the finest clock maker in this country since the early days of Howard and Seth Thomas. His clocks now number in the thousands and can be found at all major auctions, on E-bay, and at clock meetings, and in collections around the globe. He always has a waiting list for his clocks. I predict that in a few years there will be a catalog of Wayne Cline clocks. This outstanding 50 inch cherry case was made in 1993. It has a 12 inch metal dial made and painted by The Dial House, two glasses painted by Tom Moberg, and a newly cast iron weight marked "1". The old brass pendulum is pretty rough looking but very serviceable. It is the only black mark against this clock. The old 8 day movement is signed, "E. Howard & Co. Boston". It has dead beat escapement and maintaining power. The large flat weight descends behind a partition. All the hands on this collectors clocks were made by a certified hand maker and are exact copies of the originals. Ly-American Clocks No.396.
