J. Kaiser Universe Clock, ca 1954.
An unusual style of 400 day clock that has the collectors bidding them up higher and higher. For many years we never saw them here in the states as very few were exported from Germany, but as the prices climbed above $500, now approaching $1000 and more, they are now coming out of the closets. We sold 2 in the Jan.2003 auction. What is so unusual is the large terrestrial globe that is the pendulum. As it revolveslike the traditional 400 day clock pendulums, it is releasing the power inthe springs. Above the dial is a moon-globe, which indicates the variousmoon phases. The brass movement is signed "J.Kaiser, Germany". Back wind, spring enclosed in a barrel, clock is running. There is only one minor problem, the dome is a replacement and doesnÕt fit the slot exactly. Domes are availablefrom Timesavers.
