Gilbert Clock Co. metal cased mantle clock, "Tuscan", ca 1901.
Considered by many to be Gilbert's most attractive metal clock. 8 day round movement, strikes half hours on a nickel bell. Handsomely styled with 4 Brazilian green onyx columns, onyx cap and base. A touch of brown in the onyx adds a little flavor. The rich ormolu gold finish has some wear yet some original gold still shining. The case is 19 inches high, and overall in good original condition. 2 piece porcelain dial with open escapement mechanism, original hands, all very nice. Probably a couple of things keep the clock from being almost perfect. There is no back cover over the movement opening, and the pendulum, although perfect in every way, is not original to this clock. The clock has been here for a few weeks and runs for a time and quits. I would guess it needs a bushing or maybe has a bent pivot. This should be an easy job for your repairman. Ly-Gilbert No. 891.
