Early banjo, "W. Goodwin, North Attleboro, Mass.", ca 1840-1860. This is the No. 5 banjo that was made by Tifft, Hatch, Aldrich, Williams, and Goodwin, made in Attleboro during this time period.
The original zinc dial on this clock is signed by Goodwin. The case is marked, "DLW" on the bottom board, which is David L. Williams, an Attleboro carpenter and clockmaker, who was associated with Hatch and Aldrich in the clock business, and no doubt made cases for Goodwin and others. The 8 day weight movement is "T Bridge", old and correct, weight is original, glasses are original but bottom rebacked. There is no cover over the weight chute at the bottom and consequently no pendulum tiedown. There is a new wall hanger. 29 inches mahogany case has not been cleaned in many years if ever. This isn't a mint clock but it is early, and with the great original signed dial, very nice movement and pendulum, good old glasses and weight, it should make a desirable collector piece. The only source of information I found for Wallace Goodwin is, "Bulletin No. 210, Feb. 1981, pages 14-19 inches.
