Mahogany case with eagle-carved crest, acanthus-carved and rope-turned half columns, and paw feet. With its original, reverse-painted tablet depicting the Great Square in Mexico. With a 30-hour, weight-driven, wooden movement and a polychrome-painted dial with Arabic numerals and gilt flourishes in the spandrels and floral decoration in the center of the chapter ring. In a fine, old finish; 33.75" high x 18" wide x 5.25" deep. Riley Whiting (d. 1835), worked in Winchester and Winsted, Connecticut. He worked with Samuel Hoadley early in his career, but was on his own by 1819. Condition report Minor defects; VG.
