Hotchkiss and Benedict, Auburn, NY, 8 day, time and strike brass movement shelf clock. Serial no. 2293 stamped on the movement. This is a late movement as the winding holes are now symmetrical on the dial, c1837

Refinished mahogany veneered case with some minor veneer repair and veneer chips on the door. Original painted wood dial is very nice for its age. Mirror has a crack in the lower corner. The backboard has some old worm damage on the top edge. It is also cracked and someone put on hinges to fasten two pieces together that allows you to flip down the back to view the back of the movement. The current bell is now mounted behind the splat. It was probably mounted inside under the top originally. Two of the four pulleys are original. The hands appear to be replacements as they are rather short. Remains of original wallpaper inside case as well as the label. Someone added a small metal finial on the center of the carved splat. Ht 37 1/2"
