the case retains its original grain paint. The lower backboard and bottom have repairs from the weight falling. Both doors have separate locks and Howard type door latches. The reverse painted tablets have been reblacked. The dial center has been painted over the paper with Riggs signature. W.H.C. Riggs was the founder of the famous multi-generational Philadelphia retailer. The movement was originally stamped Howard & Davis and has been over stamped RIGGS multiple times. This is the earliest Riggs Philadelphia example we have seen.
