there is a small bit of paper dial missing above the Month aperture, the top crest is a replacement and a piece of dark purple label missing on the left side in the lower box. Otherwise this is an excellent example of this model. Retains original dial, hands, pendulum and finish, plus good label on reverse [minor loss to label]. Gilbert made many drop octagons right after the Civil War with Maranville's patent metal calendar, but they came up with this paper over zinc, with card-stock day circle to circumvent the original patent and avoid royalties. For details, see Tran Duy Ly's book on Gilbert clocks, page 85. At the height of interest in 2005, this was a 2000 dollar clock.
