Gilbert Clock Co., Winsted, Conn., "Office Drop Calendar" clock, 8 day, time and strike, with Gilbert's version of the famous Maranville's calendar system, and in a walnut case with carved trim. there is a small bit of paper dial missing above the Month aperture, the top crest is a replacement and a piece of dark purple label missing on the left side in the lower box. Otherwise this is an excellent example of this model. Retains original dial, hands, pendulum and finish, plus good label on reverse [minor loss to label]. Gilbert made many drop octagons right after the Civil War with Maranville's patent metal calendar, but they came up with this paper over zinc, with card-stock day circle to circumvent the original patent and avoid royalties.
