Longcase Calendar

Thomas Perkins, Pittsburgh, Penn., tall clock "No. 31", 8 days, time, strike and calendar, weight driven movement in an inlaid and accented cherry case with mahogany and boxwood veneer, broken arch top with inlaid rosettes, delicate full columns on hood

the case has been refinished and restored, according to Douglas Shaffer, who documented restoration on paper pasted inside trunk door. The finials and plinths are replacements. The Boston style dial is in excellent condition with some minor deterioration to moon phase and is purportedly at some point in the past to have a Samuel Curtis, Boston label. The weights, pendulum and winding key are period. In Bailey and Spittler's "Clockmakers and Watchmakers of America" Thomas H. Perkins is listed as coming from a prominent family of clockmakers based in Philadelphia.

Henry Gotshalk, Allentown, PA, inlaid walnut cased tall clock, with dentil work, bonnet top, 5 finials, and carvings. This is a 30 hours, arched brass dial, with compass motif, and with strike / silent dial in the arch, & calendar aperture above 6, from

walnut case was refinished long ago. The bulls-eye door carries the initials "H M". There is a very old round hole in the case back behind the movement ( for sound exit). The very bottom molding and 4 bracket feet appear to have been replaced some time ago. All 5 finials are original. Movement is in good mechanical condition, ticks and strikes robustly. A very good example of 18th century Pennsylvania clock work. With history of "Godshalk" and family members by Shaffer pasted to inside of door. The dial engraver spelled it with a "t", as it is pronounced.

John L. Everitt, Easton, Penn., tall clock, 8 days, time and bell strike, weight driven movement in a mahogany and mahogany veneer case with castle top, unusual tambour door, five finials, and full turned front columns on the hood. The painted iron dial

the case has been refinished and restored. The dial has been repainted but is a copy of the original, which had been damaged. The finials are replacements. The weights and pendulum are period. This specific clock by John Everitt is cited in Spittler & Bailey's "Clockmakers & Watchmakers of America". This is an unusual form with tambour door, found in the furniture of the period, but unknown in a tall clock. Very few clocks by this maker are known. He is probably the John Everitt who died Sep.

Tall clock, 8 days, time, calendar and strike, weight driven English movement with a brass dial, c1760 in an American pine case, c1810

the case has an old finish and both rear feet have been reglued and fragile. All the silvering is absent from the dial. The wooden rod pendulum has been repaired on shaft and the suspension spring is broken. The second hand is probably original, but minute and hour hands are not. Ht 81"

E.S. Moulton, Rochester, New Hampshire tall case clock with 8 day time and strike brass movement in Lunette cherry case. The painted metal dial with second hand, calendar and rocking ship has painter Spencer and Nolan, Washington, St label on rear, c1805

the case has a very old refinish and is signed with maker's signature and "NO 42". The fine fret work on hood is original with a glue repair. There is a split in the base with some restorations. The movement has typical NH style cutout. The dial has some oxidation on arch with rocking ship but is in otherwise excellent condition with fabulous Spencer and Nolan label still legible and mostly intact on backside. The weights, hands and pulleys are original. E. S. Moulton was later listed as clockmaker in Saco, Maine. Ht 90"

Nathaniel Shipman, Norwich, Conn., tall case clock 8 day time and strike brass movement in cherry case with bracket base, quarter reeded columns, wooden capitals, whale's tail frets, flame finials, tombstone door and scalloped skirt. The brass dial is

the case has its original finish nicely rubbed down with split above of rear right foot on restored with new bracing and high quality dovetailed craftsmanship on plinth. Note it is likely the plinth was cut down at some time to allow standing the clock in a short celing, then the bracket and tall feet were later crafted to disguise the loss. There is a repair on the cutout crest and a restoration to age crack on hood door. The well engraved brass dial is in good condition with slight darkening (could stand re-silvering). The weights are a replacement and the pendulum is original.
